What does the research say?

What does the research have to say anyways? I found this weeks topic interesting. There is a lot of research that is out there that is geared toward education. Sometimes it isn't that easy to know what you are looking at and how that information applies.

Project Tomorrow: This site was pretty neat to explore. One of the first things that I looked at was the list of top schools. One of the over all top school districts was Brevard County in Florida. Why would this be something to stand out to me? Well, my family lived in Brevard County. Many of the middle and elementary schools that responded to this research were in the same city that my mom lives in, Titusville. I didn't think I would see them on the list of top participates, as most of the people I have seen in the town itself have been older people.

The Mindset List: I really liked this list! There are so many things on it that I don't even know where to begin. There were a couple different ones on the class of 2020 list.

"#7. The Sandy Hook tragedy is their Columbine." This fact reminded me of some of the ones for my current students. The current freshman students are all born in the 2000s, and many of them we  not even born yet when 9/11 happened. I can remember where I was and what I was doing when the first plane hit the towers. It makes me wonder if my students could recall similar information for a major news event in their lifetime?

"#9. Each year they've been alive the U.S. population has grown by more than one million Latinos." Many of my students are Latino. I think that they might find that interesting.

"#3. They never heard Harry Caray try to sing during the seventh inning at Wrigley Field." Well, I couldn't pass up this gem. With the cubs having just won the world series last year, this is a big deal. So to end this weeks post, enjoy the 7th inning stretch "Take me out to the ball game"

(not sure how to get a caption on a linked video.... but I hoped you same along!)

  1. What stood out to your about the top school in Florida? Did the research indicate how they came to the conclusion that these were the top schools?
